Liberia: Senate Pro Tempore Karngar-Lawrence sets up Investigative Committee to Probe Alleged Budget Tempering

CAPITOL HILL, MONROVIA: The Liberian Senate has constituted a six (6) man ad hoc committee to investigate the alleged alteration of the approved FY 2024 National Budget.

Senate Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence made the statement Thursday, September 5, 2024, during the 3rd Day Sitting of the Extraordinary Session of the Liberian Senate. She named Grand Cape Mount County Senator Dabah Varpilah, as chairperson to lead in the investigative process.

Other members include Grand Gedeh County Senator, Thomas Yaya Nimely, Senators James Biney and Momo Tarniekollie Cyrus of Maryland and Lofa Counties, Sinoe County Senator, Cllr. Augustine Chea and Senator Numene T.H. Bartekwa from Grand Kru County.

The committee is taxed to find out findings from the alleged altering of the budget that was passed by the National Legislature and sent to the Chief Executive for approval.

The Committee is mandated to report its findings and recommendations to the Plenary of the Senate within one week.
