“In my sound mind, I signed the Resolution to impeach Speaker Koffa consciously of the outcomes and I remain firm and unwavering in this battle with no turning back! Even if it means standing alone, I will.”
CAPITOL HILL, MONROVIA: River Gee County Electoral District 3 Representative, Johnson S.N Williams Sr. has vowed his quest to remove Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa as Speaker of the 55th National Legislature.
In a Press Statement issued over the weekend, the River Gee District #3 Lawmaker said he consciously signed the Resolution to oust Speaker Koffa from the Speakership because of what he describes as bad leadership practiced by the Speaker.
According to him, his actions are not been induced by anything or anyone, as claimed by his colleague Luther Collins from Gbarpolu County, Electoral District #2.
Accordingly, the Representative says he would welcome any probe or investigation of the purported bribery claim.
It can be recalled that on Thursday, October 17, 2024, some members of the House of Representatives signed a Resolution to Impeach Speaker, Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa.
They told Journalists that 47 members of the HoR signed the document to impeach Cllr. Koffa, who is currently serving as Speaker on several charges.
According to him, six of the Charges are major counts.
“Indeed, we achieved our objective on October 17, 2024: to gather and present our resolution of vote of no confidence.”
The self-claim majority Members believe that the House of Representatives should be a place of unhindered advocacy, sustained oversight, and respect for fellow colleagues.
Reacting to his critics, Representative Williams said it’s ridiculous for anybody to believe that he would receive bribes to remove Speaker Koffa who he didn’t vote for.
“Consistent with the 1986 Constitution and House’s Rules, it’s legal to request the removal of a Speaker if there’s a cause, so I urge you to look at the merits of our six counts instead of just merely concentrating on the false allegations that I received money to sign a resolution to impeach Speaker Koffa.”
Additionally, the Lawmaker said it’s important to note that his decision to sign a resolution to impeach Speaker Koffa is not against his political party’s interest as it has been perceived.
“The Honorable House of Representatives is a political theater and this political battle will end successfully.” He added
However, the lawmakers are calling on Liberians to take time off and digest and see the merits in each of the counts stated in the resolution against Speaker Koffa and try to avoid ways of sensing in analyzing their actions.
Meanwhile, Representative Williams has assured the citizens that his decision to sign a resolution is void of any financial rewards or otherwise inducements calling on his direct constituents.
