MARYLAND: The Maryland Farmers Multi -Purpose Cooperative Society Ltd( MARFACOOP), for the first time in the county, had a day long annual general assembly sitting since its establishment.
The cooperative was established with the aimed of purchasing rubber latex from local farmers or selling them on their behalf to rubber buying companies, such as sale of farm including inputs to purchase rubber.
The occasion was held at the Bonniken City Hall on Friday July 19,2024, and was graced by delagates from the cavalla Rubber Cooperation(CRC), CDA Representative Abednego Russell, youths, authorities of the cooperative and Bonniken Commissioner, Jaspers Bilibi.
Serving as guest speaker for the program, the cavalla Rubber Cooperation ( CRC) eye person Henry J.B Freeman thanked both the management and members of the entity for bringing local farmers together to foster one goal.
Freeman assured the cooperative the company close cooperation with them in inhancing rubber production on the higher scale in Liberia. He however encouraged local rubber Farmers to remain astute and focus on their production to maximize sufficient profits to Carter to domestic affairs and invest.
Navigating to the congregation, the County Coordinator for the cooperative Mr. Amos Dossen Sr. lauded the management of CRC for granting them the close working relationship with the company.
Giving an overview of the cooperative” considering the fact that majority of the shareholders are farmers, the board of directors in a meeting of November 17, 2023 adopted a resolution to establish the entity’s own rubber farm in order to make the organization become self reliant, grow and develop despite the age -old challenges such as small membership, low share value, wrong conception about the way a cooperative operates and dishonesty” he said.
He added that, these anti development actions mentioned are frustrating and pose a serious threat to the continuous existence of the organization. Additionally, ” MARFACOOP is now visible by the entity of a foreign Liberia based company into the rubber purchasing market in Maryland County ” Amos Dossen Sr noted.
In conclusion, as the cooperative is under taking a mass vegetables and crops project in Bonniken, the entity is requesting for additional fifty acres (50) of land from the township to enable them expand their production.
In response, the commissioner of Bonniken Town Jaspers Bilibi excitedly accepted the cooperative’s request and promised to redress the entity subsequently.
