MONROVIA: The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) is set to launch its first consumer protection regulations as they host a technical meeting with telecommunications providers. The meeting was held to review and discuss the new regulations, which are designed to enhance consumer rights in Liberia’s telecommunications sector.

During the meeting, Acting Chairman Patrick Honnah emphasized the importance for consumer protection. “We are here to guide and protect the consumers and their rights,” Honnah said. “These regulations will address critical issues such as fair pricing and data protection.”

The session provided a platform for telecommunications providers to offer feedback and discuss the practical aspects of implementing the new rules. Honnah urged stakeholders to actively participate in refining the regulations.

“Our team is set to engage stakeholders in various regions to gather input and ensure these regulations are effective,” he added.

The LTA’s Consumer Affairs department is leading the review process. Lekpele Nyamlon, the Consumer Manager, highlighted the significance of the new LTA to Launch Consumer Protection Regulations as They Host Technical Meeting with Telecom Providers regulations are designed to be comprehensive and responsive to both consumer and industry needs,” Nyamlon explained. “They include measures to prevent misleading advertising and ensure fair pricing.”

A key component of the regulations is the establishment of a consumer support center. “This center will serve as a resource for consumers to resolve issues with their service providers and handle unresolved complaints,” Nyamlon noted.

To ensure widespread understanding and implementation, the LTA will conduct a nationwide tour, with stops in Maryland County, Gbarnga City, Tubmanburg, and Monrovia. “We want to make sure every Liberian is informed about the new regulations and how they can benefit from them,” Honnah said.

The LTA’s initiative underscores a commitment to creating a fair and transparent telecommunications environment in Liberia, aligning with international standards and addressing long-standing consumer concerns.
