Liberia: KEC Executive Director Madam Catherine Gaisie Calls For a Global Fight Against Problems Affecting Eyesight

MONROVIA: Every year October 12 is celebrated as World Sight Day, a day set aside to remember those with eye problems and understand the difficulties they face.

In observance of the day, the Karish Eye Care have joined other Countries around the world to celebrate and identify those with sight issues.

Speaking to ERA NEWS, the executive director of the Karish Eye Care (KEC) Dr. Catherine Gaisie said, it is important that citizens visit the various eye centers to know the problems they face with their eyes, especially identifying objects.

The Opthalmologist believed that there have been some significant improvements within the Eye Care Service (ECS) in Liberia, stressing the need for more support to the sector.

Karish Eye Care is an eye center located around the Boulevard junction, which offers proper checking of the eyes to identify problems and to give the rightful treatment.

She disclosed that in 2022, the entity was able to string five hundred and thirty nine people, while over three hundred individuals were strung in 2023.

The Karish Eye Care, which has been in Liberia over the passed three (3)years has offer basic laboratory eye services to many Liberians and mainly focus on eye stringing.

Dr. Catherine Gaisie said, the KEC institution is involved in stringing eyes, community engagement to identify those sight problems, comprehensive eye examination among others.

The executive director of the Karish Eye Care however, narrated the impacts the institution have made in the Country since its establishment making specific reference on proper stringing of the eye and providing special glasses to individuals with sight problems.

Dr. Gaisie wants citizens used the Karish Eye Care to seek proper stringing of the eye, especially those with sight problems.

She thanked the Lion’s Club International and other partners for their support towards the Karish Eye Care institution.

Meanwhile, The executive director and Ophthalmologist Dr. Catherine Gaisie called on the government and other International partners to double up their efforts in supporting the sector and, at the same time lauded the Ministry of Health for continuously partnering with her entity.
