MONROVIA: The Government of Liberia has announced five thousand United States dollars($5.000.00) as a tip for anyone providing credible and meaningful information that could assist in the investigation of the fire that gutted the Capitol Building early Wednesday morning.

The fire, which destroyed the joint chambers of the National Legislature has been classified as an arson attack.

The announcement, made through the Ministry of Justice, is part of efforts to expedite the investigation and hold those responsible accountable.

Authorities believe the inducement will encourage witnesses or individuals with crucial knowledge about the incident to come forward.

The government is committed to uncovering the truth behind this act of destruction,” a statement from the Ministry read. “We urge citizens and residents with credible information to contact the Liberia National Police or the Ministry of Justice immediately. Your identity will be protected.”

Public Outcry and Ongoing Investigations

The fire, which gutted structures of the first branch of the Liberian government, has sparked widespread irritation and raised concerns about security and governance.

President Joseph N. Boakai, during a visit to the scene, condemned the destruction and promised swift action to ensure justice is served.

A joint investigation team, including the Liberia National Fire Service, Liberia National Police, and the Ministry of Justice, is currently studying the incident.

Initial findings revealed an empty Clorox bottle suspected of containing a liquid resembling gasoline at the scene, which investigators believe could be a critical piece of evidence.

Citizens’ Role in the Investigation

The government’s $5,000.00 dividend underscores its reliance on public collaboration to solve this case. Justice Minister Cllr. Oswald Tweh stressed that the reward demonstrates the government’s sincerity in holding perpetrators accountable and restoring public confidence.

We cannot do this alone,” Minister Tweh said. “We are counting on the cooperation of the public to help us ensure that acts like this do not undermine our nation’s democratic institutions.”

Calls for Improved Security Measures

In light of the incident, there have been renewed calls for improved security at national landmarks and key government buildings. Some lawmakers and civil society groups have also pushed for the installation of surveillance systems, such as CCTV cameras, to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

What’s Next?

The investigation is ongoing, with the government promising to update the public regularly. Citizens with credible information are encouraged to contact the Liberia National Police via their hotline or report in person at any nearby station.

This tragedy has united many in the call for accountability and reinforced the need for vigilance to protect Liberia’s democratic and governance structures.
