Liberia: EPA Renounces Social Media Video

MONROVIA: The Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) has sharply addressed claims that a social media video showing a live worm within an enclosed sachet water bag is from Liberia.

In a release, the EPA said it is concerned about the viral video circulating social media Facebook showing a worm swimming within an enclosed sachet water bag.

The video, which has been widely distributed, is alleged to have been produced in Liberia.

The agency said it has viewed and investigated the video and desires to inform the public that the water seen in the video is not from Liberia but rather from another African country.

The video of the sachet water branded as “Edu Pure” was first uploaded to social media about a year ago.

The EPA reassures the public that it will continue to work with key stakeholders in the water sector including, the National Water Sanitation and Hygiene Commission (NWASHC), the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) and Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), as well as the Ministry of Health (MOH), to ensure that the quality of water produced for human consumption meets appropriate standards.

“The Agency reaffirms its commitment to ensuring a clean, healthy, and safe environment for this and succeeding generations.” the release concluded.
