LIBERIA: Confusion Breaks out Between Citizens and LEC Management Over Meters Installations in Maryland

PLEEBO, MARYLAND: On Wednesday July 18, 2024, aggrieved citizens in Pleebo, allegedly brook into the premises of the Liberia Electricity Cooperation( LEC) and LIBENERY, vandalizing several properties, including cash.

The action taken by the concerned citizens, claimed the attention of local LEC officials, the Liberia National Police, the Pleebo City Corporation and some key government officials including Mr. Standford Neufville in the home office of District #2, Representative Anthony F. Williams.

Expressing their discontency at the Pleebo City Hall, the angry Crowd stated that, the action is due to the continue meters installment at people’s homes with a high cost being attached.

“We were disconnected from the power grid because we refused to recharge the meter. And recently LIBENERY/ LEC authorities were warmed by the county Superintendent Hon. Henry Cole to suspend all meters installation ongoing process until further notice” 

They said.

As it stands, the concerned citizens have vowed to take the challenge by demanding justice for the reduction of meters cost from one hundred thirty united state Dollars ($130) to thirty united state Dollars ($30).

The Manager for both LIBENERY and the Liberia Electricity Cooperation( LEC) in Maryland and River Gee Counties, Mr. Henry Hodge disclosed that, the installation of meters is mandatory and as such citizens need to comply with the Liberia Electricity Cooperation scrop of operation.

“It’s mentioned in the LEC operational booklet that each household should have a meter and meet with the cost of one hundred thirty United States  Dollars($130). The installment of meters to people’s houses it’s not only limited to Maryland County, rather throughout the country” he lamented.

Highlighting the brutal acts exhibited in the company’s premises by the aggrieved citizens, he’s at the same time calling on local authorities to speedily prompt into the matter as the matter is getting out of hand.

Meanwhile, the Pleebo City Cooperation, Liberia National Police, Authorities of the Liberia Electricity Cooperation ( LEC) and LIBENERY, including the aggrieved citizens, are in a close door discussion to amicably find a remedy to citizen’s concerns for the reduction of meters cost.

The ongoing meters installation in the area has being put to halt until citizens grievances are adhere to.
