CAPITOL HILL, MONROVIA: In the midst of the ongoing brawls between members of the House of Representatives over the expulsion of Speaker, Cllr. Jonathan F. Koffa, the Legislative Budget Office (LBO) of the 55th Legislature has released a calendar of events for the draft 2025 National budget hearing with ministries and agencies.
The revenue component of the budget kick-starts on Monday, December 9, 2024.
According to a press release from the House of Representatives Press and Public Affairs Bureau, signed by its Director Robert Haynes, the budget hearing opens with the Ministry of Finance and Development planning, the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) the National Port Authority as well: Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA), taking the stand before the Ways, Means and Finance Committee of the House of Representatives Chaired by Hon. P. Mike Jurry.
Day-two, Tuesday, December 10, 2024 will bring together 4 agencies: LPRC, National Fishery, Forestry Development Agency (FDA), and Liberia Petroleum Regulatory Authority
On day-three, Wednesday, December 11, 2024 another five (5) Ministries and Agencies of government are expected to appear: National Road Fund, the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Mines & Energy and Transport
Day-four, Thursday, December 12, 202 will bring together the Ministry of Justice, Liberia Immigration Service, Ministry of Labor, Liberia Business Registry/ Commerce Industry,
On day-five, Friday, December 13, 2024 Internal Affairs Ministry, Center for National Documents Records & Archives, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Ministry of Post and Telecommuncations will appear.
The committee will climax her duty of the revenue component of the draft national budget following the outstanding and rescheduled hearings and finalization of revenue numbers.
The House’s Press and Public Affairs release, quoting the LBO, underscored that all presentations will be led by heads of institutions and teams and sector heads of ministries will remain present for a presentation by sector members.
Meanwhile, institutions that are not mentioned in the budget will be encouraged to present budgetary requests, while others not appearing will submit presentations and meet sub-committees as the case may be.
