MONROVIA: Integrity Watch-Liberia’s Executive Director Herald Aidoo has described as ‘Invasion’ a process of an audit following a statement from the Senate Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence that the Liberian Senate is working alongside the General Auditing Commission to conduct audit on the Liberian Senate in two years time.
While speaking to Legislative Reporters on the opening day of the Joint Public Account Committee hearing on the grounds of the Capitol, Aidoo Stressed that a need for an audit process for the National Legislature be now, and not a planned two-years plan by the Liberian Senate.
According to him, transparency and accountability should start with the peoples’ Representatives, the National Legislature.
The popular civil rights actor also recommends that an audit of government’s institutions should start with the first branch of government, the National Legislature.
Highlighting some of the major Challenges Liberia is faced with, the Executive Director named the enforcement of laws and compliance in ensuring that recommendations are adhere to and people found going against the laws be made to face the laws.
Even though he frowned on the decision to the Senate, But the IML Boss expressed hope that with the opening of the public accounts hearings by the 55th Legislature, it will be a new beginning of accountability in Liberia especially in National Government.
