CAPITOL HILL, MONROVIA: The Speaker of the 55th National Legislature, Speaker Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon today welcomed His Excellency President Joseph N. Boakai Sr. to the Capitol Building where the President has gone to sign the book of Condolence in honor of the fallen former Vice President, Deacon John D. Gray.
The solemnity was held in the Rotunda of the Capitol Building and was attended by members of both the House of Representatives and the Liberian Senate.
Speaker Koon, accompanied by several lawmakers, was joined by Senate Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence in paying tribute to the former Vice President.
The occasion marked a moment of unity for the country’s leadership as they reflected on the contributions of the late statesman.
Speaker Koon’s Tribute
While Speaking, Speaker Koon lauded the late Vice President Gray for his service to the nation during a pivotal period in Liberia’s history.
“His service and dedication to Liberia will always be remembered. He leaves behind a legacy of patriotism and leadership,” Speaker Koon stated, emphasizing the former President’s commitment to national composure during times of crisis.
A Distinguished Career in Service
The late Vice President Gray played a crucial role in Liberia’s transitional government, serving as Vice President under President Moses Z. Blah following the resignation of former President Charles G. Taylor in August 2003.
His leadership during this challenging time helped steer the nation toward peace and reconciliation.

The signing of the Book of Condolence offered an opportunity for Liberia’s leaders, lawmakers, and citizens to reflect on the life and achievements of a man who devoted his life to the betterment of his country.
“The Legislature extends its deepest sympathies to the family of the late John Gray and reaffirms its commitment to honoring his memory,” a statement from the Legislature noted.
