Liberia: Labour Minister Kruah Embarks On Nationwide Tour Of Concession Sites

MONROVIA: As part of efforts to assess the country’s overall Labour Sector for critical reforms, the Minister of Labour, Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr. has commenced a Nationwide Tour Of major concession Companies.

Minister Kruah headed a team that includes heads of specialized sectors of the Ministry on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, and visited the operational facilities of China Union in Lower Bong County.

According to a release from the Labour Ministry, the fact-finding outing took the minister and team to the main processing plant, ruined housing units, and water and electrical units, all of which are going under revamp by the management of China Union Concession Company.

The release quotes Minister Kruah as indicating at the close of the day-long tour, that the government remains committed to providing livelihood and economic opportunities to Liberians through job creation, particularly the youthful population in that part of the country.

The release further quotes the Labour Minister as revealing that although normal operations of China Union have not commenced in practice, due to a closure order by the government, through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), he was hopeful the situation could be quickly resolved to enable the company resume active work for the greater benefit of the struggling citizens that region of Bobg County.

President Boakai and the Rescue Mission Government is committed to creating an enabling employment environment for our people, and we at the Ministry of Labour will continue to encourage our employment entities, including China Union to adhere to this policy, by providing a sustainable economic lifestyle good to our citizens”, the release quoted Minister Kruah.

Meanwhile, Minister Kruah and team are expected to depart Monrovia shortly for leeward counties, in continuation of the full-scale assessment tour of the country’s labor sector for critically needed reforms, in line with government development drive under ‘The ARREST AGENDA’, the release concluded.
